What level of CLB in French is needed for Canadian PR?
Monday | November 04, 2024 | by French Tweets
Where is CLB 7 needed in French ?
1. Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSW):
This stream within the Express Entry system generally requires at least CLB 7 in language tests (including TEF Canada) for eligibility.
Where is CLB 5 needed in French ?
For people on a work permit, temporary residents, or study visas in Canada, the language requirement for permanent residency (PR) depends on the specific immigration program they apply to. A Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 5 in the TEF Canada exam may be sufficient for certain PR pathways, but not all. Here’s a breakdown of the key options:
1. Canadian Experience Class (CEC):
This is a popular pathway for people who have Canadian work experience.
For National Occupational Classification (NOC) B jobs (often skilled trades), the minimum language requirement is CLB 5.
For NOC 0 or A jobs (usually higher-skilled roles), the minimum is CLB 7.
2. Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP):
Requirements vary by province and by the specific PNP stream.
Some PNPs accept lower language scores (CLB 4-5) if the applicant meets other criteria like a job offer in an in-demand occupation.
Those on work or study permits may find PNPs with language flexibility if they’re applying in regions that prioritize certain skills or occupations.
3. Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP):
Designed for individuals with experience in skilled trades, this program accepts lower language scores: a minimum of CLB 4 in reading and writing, and CLB 5 in speaking and listening.
Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) and Agri-Food Pilot Program:
These programs accept CLB 4 or CLB 5 in some cases, making them suitable for individuals with intermediate language proficiency who also meet other eligibility requirements (e.g., job offers in relevant sectors or regions).
4. Study Permit Holders:
Those on a study permit often work toward a Canadian diploma or degree, which can add points and boost eligibility for PR.
Higher language scores help increase CRS points if applying through Express Entry, but programs like CEC or PNPs may accept CLB 5 or even lower in some cases, depending on other criteria met.
